Moving On With Life

Author’s Note: This is a short story based off of a quote that I found  online. I think I know what the quote is trying to say; it is also very self explanatory.

Don’t judge me by my past, I don’t live there anymore

To me that I feel that this is a quote that is telling people that even if they do mess up in life. Never hold anything  against them because they have moved on from that mistake and have grown from their mistake. I my life I have made a few mistakes, but if I could go back and not do them I don’t think I would because one, I have grown from them and two, I wouldn’t be able to tell you about one of my experiences . Awhile back when I was in sixth grade. I had a best friend that I started to “leaving behind” and start to hang out with other people and I guess I started to forget that she was the one that was always there for me when everyone turned their back on me. From that we grew stronger as friends and I grew stronger as a human. Like I just said we are human we make mistakes.

Make the best out of everything

Olivia Wettstein
DWA
May, 2013

Author’s Note: This piece is for my spring DWA. When we were told to make it about anything that we wanted to do. I wanted to write mine about a topic that could get the reader thinking and leave a message towards them. This is a short story based off of a quote I found. Later in the piece I relate to a situation I have experienced in my life.

Never give up on something that you really want. It’s difficult to wait, but more difficult to regret (http://quotes-lover.com/picture-quote/never-give-up-on-something-you-really-want-its-difficult-to-wait-but-more-difficult-to-regret/).

To me I feel that this is a quote that tells you that if you are trying to get something that you know you love; you just felt that it is taking too much time, Always keep going because like the quote says in the end you could end up regretting if you ever give up.

Cheer is my passion. Always has been since 5th grade. It was my eighth grade year and I knew that high school cheer tryouts were coming up soon, but I guess that I didn’t see how fast they were really coming in reality. It was the day before tryouts and I guess it really hit me that now I really need to show all these judges my talent and why they should put me on their cheer team.

After a week of cheer “workshop”, sweating and hard work it all comes down to this last performance and showing the judges that spirit inside of me. Standing in front to the judges feeling numb due to all of the nerves, only because I didn’t want to mess up right in front of them. I would rather mess up during the past week of workshop. After my tryout I felt so much confidence I didn’t think it was real. I just now had to all day for the results.

Later that night the results were posted. I didn’t make the team that I exactly wanted but the team that I did make I am the captain. Knowing that they made me the captain makes me know that I stood out as a leader for them to notice me.

I can relate my story to the book Perfect. In this book Isabel has an eating disorder. She knows herself that it is bad for you and she wants to get over her fear of being “fat”. Isabel goes to therapy every week and talks out why she is doing such harm to her body, her reasoning is stress, due to her father’s death and her mother’s depression and always taking care of her little sister.

After months of hard work Isabel does get over her fear of being “fat”.  She does come over the fact that is beautiful in her own way, she doesn’t care what people think of her looks anymore. Like they say, if you like the way you look it doesn’t matter what other people and that’s exactly how Isabel feels now about herself.

Even though you might now always get what you want in the beginning it will come out good in the end. Because I am not going to quit cheering just because I didn’t make the team I wanted. I am going to make the best out of everything and have an amazing season.

Always With Me

Author’s note: I feel that doing any physical activity will help with your bodyalong with the way you look and feel.
I have started working out more often, caring more about my health and how fit I am ever since my experience during past two years in Phy Ed class. I have learned many things that I hadn’t known until Asa Gym classes. For example, I have found out the different types of muscle groups and how they are most effective . Knowing this has helped me in my sports and training by working on each of the muscle groups in the most effective way. Phy Ed is one of the most important classes in school because keeping yourself in shape and healthy can help with more than just well being: it can also help you with self confidence.
During my games in the different sports I play, I use both of my muscle groups. Cheerleading requires lifting people in the air and calls for a lot of muscle: both red and white because you are lifting all of someone’s weight in the air. And for the person in the air you have to use your muscles too, because you have told hold you own weight up in the air too so you don’t fall.
Although muscles are a very important to know about and understand, some have said that staying fit and active can boost your self confidence as well. Self confidence is extremely important in the daily life. By not having self confidence you would feel bad because you never want to worry about what other people think or say about you. And if they do talk about you..show them that they have no reason to by just showing them that you can be just active as other people.

Self confidence and keeping yourself in shape and healthy are just two of the great things that we have been taught about in gym class. I feel that this is a great thing to learn in school because it makes us feel good about ourselves on the inside and the outside.

My Winter Snow Scene

Author’s Note: This is a short creative piece on a winter snow scene. Watch how I use figurative language throughout the piece

When I step outside of my front door to only see what looks like 100 inches of snow, I quickly realize that it is only seven inches of heavy, wet snow. Struggling to get to the garage to reach the shovels, I tripped and fell into the snow. Face plant: my face was covered in snow, like cake covered in frosting. I felt so cold like I was sitting in a bathtub of ice. I then went inside to warm up like it was a hot summer day. I thought that after I face planted in the snow I wasn’t going to shovel anymore, so I made some hot chocolate and sat in a chair wrapped in a warm blanket looking outside my window. When I really got to take a good look at the snow instead of it all in my face, I saw all the snow from a distance. I looked at the sparkly snow resting on the trees as it glistened in the sun...Even though the winter is the coldest and most people don’t like the cold, it sure is the prettiest to take a good close look at.

Poetry

Authors note: I picked to do a poem because I always like writing them and we don't get to write them a lot in school and now I was  give the opportunity to write one.

Summer
Hot days
sunny, beach, friends
Tans fade, memoires made
School starts all over again
Fall

WALKING THROUGH THE SNOW
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE
NO TIME TO COME IN FROM PLAYING OUTSIDE
TIME FOR A SNOW DAY
EVERY CHILD MAKING SNOWMEN
READY TO SHOVEL

How It Is Being Seen

Author’s Note: This song It Will Rain,  by Bruno Mars, tells us that if you love something so much and it decides to leave let it, don't go chasing after that one person you love. Lots of people have been in the place where they lose a person they love. Which is what this song tells us about.

In the chorus of the song It Will Rain the lyris tells us that the girl he had fallen in love with leaves, and before the time she leaves he wanted to let her know that he will do anything to keep her; give up his life for her. The song then says “just like the clouds my eyes will do the same”, meaning that he will be crying for a while until he can get her back due to him being so upset and sad. Until she comes back because he doesn’t go chasing after her.

I have been though a situation in my life where I lost person I loved. She was my best friend. We have been friends for the last five years and have done everything together. I know what this song is saying because it is really hurtful when you lose your best friend or someone you love.

She and I were both so upset we both had holes in our hearts for days, we wanted to work things out but we were both too scared to sit down and talk to each other. Our moms talked and decided it was time for us to see each other to sit down and talk over lunch over Panera.

My mom and I walked in to Panera where I saw my friend getting something to drink and her mom sitting at a table. I then knew what the real reason I was here for; it was to talk to my best friend, Or what I use to call my best friend. When I sat down at the table I was all calm, but when I saw her walk over, I then got butterflies in my stomach, not for excitement, but because I knew it was going to be a relief  to finally get to talk to her as much as I didn’t want to. I didn’t realize how nervous I really got until I felt my palms getting sweaty.

even though that we weren’t friends for a while we noticed that even though the roughest times we can get through anything together.

My story is just like Bruno Mars’ because we both lost something we loved. Mine came back without me chasing after my best friend, unfortunately for Bruno he lost her, but if that’s the way it was suppose to be, let it be.

In the end, just remember that everything happens for a reason. It could be good or, it can be bad. If things are bad just know that it's not over and the good will come out in the end. If it turns out good and be what you wanted, it was always meant to be. But throughout this song it in some way telling us to just always keep your head held high and never give up.

Health comes Always

Authors note: When our class was told we had to do an essay on a theme of a book, the first book I thought of was Perfect because I had just finished the book so it was going to be easy. I then compare Isabel to Perfect to pictures of Hollis woods.

The book Perfect, by Natasha Friend  is a story about a young girl who has a hard life as a middle schooler.  She has a lot of worries, which causes her to do things she knows aren’t good for her, all the while causing her to be sicker and sicker.  Through this story we will see that your health should come before everything else.

Isabel the main character in the book has a younger sister that she has to take care of. I think that Isabel got a parent like figure because she was always taking care of her younger sister. I didn’t think that it was right of her mom to leave all of the responsibility on a eighth grader.

By the end of the book I think that Isabel became a strong independent woman, with the fact of having the loss of her father and her mother being so depressed she couldn’t take care of her own kids, and Isabel getting over the fact that she was not fat and she didn’t need to do what she was doing to herself.

Isabel reminds me of Hollis from Pictures of Hollis Woods. I think this because Hollis is also an independent in the beginning of the book due to the fact that she has never really had a family that she could rely on for any advise and or help. she then expresses her feelings in her art work, which turn out good as a final product. At the end of the book Hollis realizes that she found family that truly does love and care about her.

In the end the two girls were very different but then noticed that the health of them physically and mentally. I think that they were both very strong girls to be able to face what they all had going on in their life. Isabel was putting her sister and her mom before her eating disorder. Hollis was putting the fact that she wanted a new good family that will keep her and not send her away right away, before looking at how she was emotionally feeling. So if you are ever stuck in a bad situation make sure that you look back and see if your health is good as well.
