Authors note: When our class was
told we had to do an essay on a theme of a book, the first book I thought of
was Perfect because I had just finished the book so it was going to be easy. I
then compare Isabel to Perfect to
pictures of Hollis woods.
The book Perfect, by
Natasha Friend is a story about a young
girl who has a hard life as a middle schooler.
She has a lot of worries, which causes her to do things she knows aren’t
good for her, all the while causing her to be sicker and sicker. Through this story we will see that your health should come before
everything else.
Isabel the main character in the book has a younger sister
that she has to take care of. I think that Isabel got a parent like figure
because she was always taking care of her younger sister. I didn’t think that
it was right of her mom to leave all of the responsibility on a eighth grader.
By the end of the book I think that Isabel became a strong
independent woman, with the fact of having the loss of her father and her
mother being so depressed she couldn’t take care of her own kids, and Isabel getting
over the fact that she was not fat and she didn’t need to do what she was doing
to herself.
Isabel reminds me of Hollis from Pictures of Hollis Woods. I think this because Hollis is also an
independent in the beginning of the book due to the fact that she has never
really had a family that she could rely on for any advise and or help. she then
expresses her feelings in her art work, which turn out good as a final product.
At the end of the book Hollis realizes that she found family that truly does
love and care about her.
In the end the two girls were very different but then noticed that the health of them physically and mentally. I think that they
were both very strong girls to be able to face what they all had going on in
their life. Isabel was putting her sister and her mom before her eating
disorder. Hollis was putting the fact that she wanted a new good family that
will keep her and not send her away right away, before looking at how she was emotionally
feeling. So if you are ever stuck in a bad situation make sure that you look
back and see if your health is good as well.
