It is a Sport

Authors Note: when people tell me that my favorite cheer leading is not a sport I try as hard as I can to tell them that it is. If you think, you mind will be thinking after this.

If you are a girl and you want to be in a sport but you don’t like basket ball, softball, soccer, volleyball or any other sports. You should try cheer leading. Cheering leading consist of three sometimes four parts. Cheering, stunting, dancing and sometimes if you go to competition.

In cheer there is stunting. It contains 2 two bases, one back and one flyer. In a stunt group the bases are the people that hold up the flyer. The flyer is the one who is put in the air. The back is the person who is there to catch the flyer if they fall and to lift some  of the weight off of the bases so they don’t get tired.

Some tips to be a better at  stunting is for the bases to lots of pushups so are strong enough to lift up your flyer. For the backs you should also do pushups because you are lifting some of weight off the bases. A good thing for the flyer to have white cheer shoes with a smooth bottom. You want a smooth bottom so when your bases lift you and are holding you in the air with your feet, you don’t want you bases hands to hurt.

Now you are ready to do a stunt.  A stunt that relates to all of the stuff above would be an elevator. First the bases squat down facing each other with their hands at their bellybutton and in a squatting possession. Next the back will grab the flyers hips and count 1-2 and the flyer will jump into the bases hands. Now the back will grab the flyer ankles and count 1-2 again. Now the bases will push they flyer up with their hands ending up right below their chin, but in front not resting on their chest. Now to come down the back will count 1-2 for the last time and the bases with push their flyer up and bring their arms down, they flyer needs to smack her legs and grab the bases shoulders. Now you have successfully completed you stunt.

In cheer you learn more than 50 cheers and you have to remember all of them. When you cheer you want to use a “man voice”. So when you cheer the sound will carry on longer and they can understand you. Also when you cheer there are also movements with you arms. When you do these movements you want it to be sharp and not “noodle arms”. If you don’t do this your coaches will punish you. The punishments can lead to doing pushup or running laps. So when you go to practice you don’t want to mess around and want to get what you need to get done.

Also in cheer you sometimes can go to a competition, I have never been in one but what I know that the competition is tuff. You want to stay loud, keep your smile and for sure not drop your stunts or forget your dance. It is an honor to be at a competition, being there with your friends because on the cheer team you aren’t just friends with a couple people you are friends with everyone, because without them you wouldn’t be where you are.

Some people don’t think that cheer is a sport but I strongly disagree cheer is a sport. People say that just because it isn’t in the Olympics doesn’t make it a sport. Well you know football isn’t either. I hope this changes your mind on whether you like cheer or if you still don’t.
