How Was Your Childhood?

You have a mom that takes care and loves you right? Well in the book A Child Called “it” by Dave Pelzer writes a story about his childhood and how it was not the best. He did not have a mother like most kids do. The author of this book is trying to tell a life experience about abuse, and how it is not nice to treat your kids like this. I do not agree with this mother or father in this book at all. In the book the little boy is actually the author of this book.

In the beginning of this book Dave is washing the dishes and his mother is yelling like usual at his two older brothers. Dave’s mother was so upset that she comes into the kitchen and take Dave’s head and slams it on the corner of the kitchen counter. Dave also says that in the book that another discipline is that his mother takes him up into the bathroom and rubs his face up against the mirror. Dave says that his tears we wiped all over the mirror.

In the second chapter Dave says that he actually says that he had some good times. He said that when he was about four or five that his mother had 5 fish tanks and that one of the tanks was just for him. Every summer Dave and his two brothers, mom and dad would go on a camping trip and they would have a lot of fun.

Dave does go to school, and he says that school is his only happy place. In school he has to go the nurse everyday so the nurse can check up on him. The nurse tells Dave to lift up his shirt to see if there were any sorts of marks. The nurse found some new cuts on him and asked if they were from his mother. Dave said no because he was too scared to tell her because then his mother would find out and call him a “bad boy”. Dave ended up telling him that he mother had beaten on him again. The nurse called the principle about Dave’s mother beating him. The principle was very concerned.

When Dave got home and it was just him home alone with his mother, his mother found out that he had told on her about what she does to him. His mother said that she had read about a mother making her kids put their hands on a burning stove as a discipline. Dave then began to worry in fear. His mother then makes him put his hand on a burning stove. Dave said in his book that all he remembers is his mom putting his hand on the
burning stove and that the next thing that he saw was himself laying on the kitchen floor.

This book is very inspiring to kids that read the book who have been abused before. Dave shows that all what happened in his childhood he has put behind him but, has not forgotten about all the pain that he had suffered from. He shows that if you put it behind you, you can get far in life. Like Dave Pelzer did by becoming an Author. Telling his childhood story.
